How does compression work?+
Pages are rendered to optimized JPEG images and rebuilt into a new PDF. This removes redundant data and shrinks image-heavy files dramatically.
What quality should I choose?+
Medium is a good default for most documents. Use Low for the smallest size where appearance matters less, and High when you need near-original clarity.
Will text stay selectable?+
Compression rasterizes pages, so text becomes part of the image. For image-heavy documents the size savings usually outweigh this trade-off.
Why is my compressed file larger?+
If the original PDF is already heavily optimized and mostly text, re-rendering can add size. This is rare and usually means the file was already small.
