How a public Instagram URL is resolved
You paste a Reel or post URL. The server checks that it looks like instagram.com/p/, /reel/, or /tv/, then requests public media metadata for that shortcode. If Instagram still exposes a video URL for logged-out viewers, SaveMyVid shows a download button. We do not scrape a private session.
Source MP4, including audio when Instagram provides it
Successful fetches are standard MP4 with the audio Instagram attached (voice, music, or both). We do not mix a separate audio download unless the extractor already received a combined file.

The URL type matters more than the button label
Instagram uses different paths for the same kind of clip. A Reel you opened from Explore might still copy as /reel/SHORTCODE. A feed video is usually /p/SHORTCODE. IGTV-style long video is /tv/SHORTCODE. SaveMyVid’s Instagram extractor expects one of those public paths.
Stories use /stories/username/id and disappear. Even when the URL still looks valid, the media is often gone. Treat stories as unreliable compared with Reels and feed posts.
- Best: public /reel/ and /p/ links you can open logged out.
- Unreliable: stories, expired highlights, and any URL that redirects to a login wall.
- Never: private profiles. If Instagram asks you to follow the account to watch, we cannot fetch it.
No Instagram password, no watermark from us
The Instagram downloader does not ask for your Instagram login. If a post is public, we try to resolve the source MP4 Instagram already hosts. SaveMyVid does not burn its own logo onto the file. If you still see a watermark, it was in the original upload.

Use Copy link on a Reel or video post you can open without following a private account.

You want /reel/SHORTCODE or /p/SHORTCODE. Story URLs are a poor bet. The URL-types guide shows examples.

This page uses the Instagram extractor, not the X syndication path. A twitter.com URL will not work here — use the X downloader or the homepage.

Save the MP4
If the fetch succeeds, download the file. On iPhone it still starts in Safari Downloads.

Why did a Story URL fail?↓
Stories expire within about 24 hours and are often not available to logged-out clients. Copy a Reel or feed post instead when you can.
Can I download from a private Instagram account?↓
No. SaveMyVid never asks for Instagram credentials and will not open follow-gated media.
Does this add a watermark?↓
SaveMyVid does not. If a logo is in the picture, it came from the creator or from Instagram’s own overlay on that upload.
Where do Reels save on Android?↓
